Why So Many Hearing Aids Underperform

When we started this clinic back in 2017, one thing that surprised us was the number of people who already had hearing aids but still couldn't hear very well with them. What was even more shocking is that most of these individuals were wearing some of the most advanced, modern digital hearing aid technology that money could buy.

Yet all of them would report the same thing: their hearing aids would make everything louder, but speech still wasn't clear and they still couldn't understand speech in background noise. For most of them, it was to the point where they were ready to give up on hearing aid treatment altogether.

What we identified was that their dissatisfaction was consistently due to one or more of the following: they were wearing the wrong hearing aids for their hearing loss, their hearing aids were mechanically malfunctioning, or their hearing aids were not programmed properly to their hearing loss prescription.

Our 3-Step Applied360 Review Process

Our comprehensive 2-hour Applied360 Review appointment with one of our experienced Doctors of Audiology follows a systematic approach to identify and solve hearing aid performance issues.

1

Hearing Difficulty Assessment

We identify all your areas of hearing difficulty and establish your top hearing priorities. Everyone has different wants, needs, and values, and these must be taken into account when evaluating your current treatment setup.

2

Comprehensive Hearing Evaluation

We evaluate your physical ear health, perform a comprehensive hearing evaluation including speech-in-noise testing, and establish your current hearing loss prescription to compare against your hearing aid programming.

3

Hearing Aid Performance Analysis

We evaluate the current programming and performance capabilities of your existing hearing aids, including diagnostic testing to ensure devices meet manufacturer specifications, review of digital feature settings, and Real Ear Measurement to verify proper programming.

Three Possible Outcomes

After completing your Applied360 Review, we'll provide one of three recommendations:

Outcome #1: Your hearing aids are already optimized (rare, but possible if you've been seeing a provider who follows Best Practices).

Outcome #2: You have the right hearing aids that are capable of treating your hearing loss, but they need our Applied360 Refit program to optimize performance.

Outcome #3: Your hearing aids are not capable of optimally treating your hearing loss due to age or feature limitations, requiring new technology with our Applied360 Fit program.

What Your Applied360 Review Includes

Each Applied360 Review includes the following key components designed to give us a complete picture of your current hearing situation and device performance. These diagnostic tools allow us to make precise, data-driven recommendations for improving your hearing experience:

Complete hearing aid diagnostic testing and analysis

Real Ear Measurement verification of current programming

Detailed recommendations for optimizing your hearing performance

Discover Your Hearing Potential

By the end of your Applied360 Review, you will know if your hearing aids have you hearing your absolute best, and if not, what you would need to do to make that a reality. Our detailed assessment provides clarity about your current situation and a clear path forward.

Many of our patients express surprise at how much better they can hear after proper optimization of their existing devices. For others, learning that their current technology simply cannot meet their needs helps them make informed decisions about their next steps. In either case, you'll leave with a complete understanding of your hearing situation and realistic expectations for improvement.

Our team of audiologists at Applied360 Hearing Solutions takes pride in our thorough, evidence-based approach. We've helped hundreds of hearing aid users who were previously disappointed with their devices discover the true potential of proper hearing treatment. Whether through reprogramming your current devices or recommending appropriate new technology, we're committed to finding the best solution for your specific hearing needs.

The journey to better hearing starts with understanding where you are today. If you're not satisfied with your current hearing performance or you're not sure if you are hearing your absolute best with your existing hearing aids, our Applied360 Review will figure out why. You don't have to settle for subpar hearing performance when better solutions are available.

Our Applied360 Review is specifically designed for existing hearing aid users. We not only test your hearing but also comprehensively evaluate your current hearing aids' performance, programming, and mechanical function to identify why they may not be working optimally.

Even new hearing aids can have programming or fitting issues. Our review process can identify these problems and often significantly improve performance through proper adjustment and verification procedures.

Yes, please bring your current hearing aids, any accessories you use with them, and if possible, previous hearing test results. It's also helpful to bring a family member or friend who can provide additional perspective on your hearing difficulties.

If we find that your hearing aids simply need reprogramming through our Applied360 Refit program, many patients notice significant improvements right away, with continued optimization over a 3-week period. If new technology is recommended, our 45-day fitting process ensures optimal results through multiple fine-tuning appointments.

Less than 5% of hearing clinics follow comprehensive Best Practices for hearing aid evaluation and fitting. Our Applied360 Review uses diagnostic test box measures and Real Ear Measurement verification – equipment and procedures that many clinics don't utilize. This allows us to objectively measure your hearing aids' performance against manufacturer specifications and your unique hearing prescription.
